Good morning!  New job is taking up more time than anticipated.  Well — maybe it’s the resting up that takes more time….  LOL  At any rate, Art for today is photography.  Pinks are still blooming on the Bayou.  Happy Hump Day!

Pretty windy out there! Took ten shots to get one that wasn't blurry!

Yesterday’s sketches.  Time was short.  LOL

Next week I’m aiming for a real drawing.  LOL

You guys all have a great weekend!  Oktoberfest on the Island today so we’ll be eating German food and drinking German beer!

Patting myself on the back for this post!  My new job wore me OUT yesterday and motivation was crazy low this morning.  LOL

Luckily for me I got the day off today!  Cool job, right?  Work first day on Friday then have the weekend, go back on Monday and Tuesday to find that Mom and Babe have plans for Wednesday so you have a DAY OFF.  You know, when you don’t have a job away from home you don’t really get days off.  I’ve really missed my days off.  I’m having a blast!  LOL

Finished framing photos this morning.  I came away from my Saturday shopping spree with seven picture frames.  There weren’t enough!  I have so many other pictures to frame!  Hard, hard, hard to choose which pics made this round.  -smile-  Anyhow, the original plan was to add them to my “family wall” in the guest room, but this morning I decided to take down the “wall” and instead spread all the family around in the library.  Warm things up a little.  Will keep you posted.  -ha-

One of the newly framed photos doesn’t really show up well in the group pic so I thought I’d give you a closer look.  Two of my favorite people in the world.  -big smile-

Debbie and Ronny! Aren't they precious?

And here’s today’s art practice.  No laughing!  I wanted the eggs in the nest to be blue, and they turned out a little too dark blue.  Okay, so dark that you couldn’t tell that there were eggs in the nest so you couldn’t really tell that it was a nest.  Changed to multimedia design and cut the eggs out of a cute little sticker.  Ta-da!

Might have to frame this, too.... LOL

Happy hump day to all!

Hey y’all.  -smile-  Something happened back in the early spring — at this point I don’t know exactly what — but whatever it was knocked me off my normal path.  I feel like I’ve been wandering, a little lost, for months now and just dealing with life’s changes as they rolled through.  Now it’s shaping up to a new season, and I’ve got my feet back on the ground.  Starting a new job and a new routine with more structure.

A little more than a month ago Cousin Mari mentioned to me that there hadn’t been much “art on the Bayou recently.”  LOL  She’s right, and I’m definitely making time for art every day in my new routine.  Sharing a few photos with you this morning and will share a few more in a day or so.  I hope that all of you had a great summer — and that you’re looking forward to fall changes as much as I am.

Went shopping on Saturday with two gift cards (one left from Christmas and one from my birthday) that were burning a hole in my pocket. Looks like a load, doesn't it?

These are doozy colors aren't they? I'm going to turn them into baby blocks and winter hats. Fat fiber and fat needles -- will work up pretty fast. I hope. LOL

This is my main project at the moment. Hurrying to finish what will be the last baby afghan I make for a long, long time. Ready for new and different work! LOL

I’m practicing my drawing, too, and working a little with pens.  Too embarrassed to send any pics of my doodles this morning but am having fun.  -big smile-

Happy Monday!

The days are flying by!  My routine is wacky!  LOL  Here to share some art with you.  Finally….  Finished the commissioned baby blanket!!!  As usual, I waited until the last minute then had to drop everything else to get it finished.  Oh well.  -smile-

Love the self-patterning -- nice stripes, right? But that lacy border was a killer! LOL

Sending love out to all of you today!

Here’s another post that’s not what you usually get from me.  I want to share a poem with you.  I know, weird, right?  I think you’ll understand when you read it.   A dear friend of mine — and someone that I’ve managed to maintain a snail mail correspondence with for over 20 years — sent it to me.  I’ve been reading it every day to remind myself that gratitude is better than grumpy.  LOL  My friend is herself a microbiologist, professor emeritus, world traveler, writer (published many times), and an artist.  She is also a poet, but this isn’t her work.  Somehow she knew that it would resonate for me.  I respect her recommendations, and she sent this to me with uncanny timing.  I needed it….

Advice to Myself

by Louise Erdrich from Original Fire:  Selected and New Poems

Leave the dishes.

Let the celery rot in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator

and an earthen scum harden on the kitchen floor.

Leave the black crumbs in the bottom of the toaster.

Throw the cracked bowl out and don’t patch the cup.

Don’t patch anything.  Don’t mend.  Buy safety pins.

Don’t even sew on a button.

Let the wind have its way, then the earth

that invades as dust and then the dead

foaming up in gray rolls underneath the couch.

Talk to them.  Tell them they are welcome.

Don’t keep all the pieces of the puzzles

or the doll’s tiny shoes in pairs, don’t worry

who uses whose toothbrush or if anything

matches, at all.

Except on word to another.  Or a thought.

Pursue the the authentic-decide first

what is authentic,

then go after it with all your heart.

You heart, that place

you don’t even think of cleaning out.

That closet stuffed with savage mementos.

Don’t sort the paper clips from screws from saved baby teeth

or worry is we’re all eating cereal for dinner

again.  Don’t answer the telephone, ever,

or weep over anything at all that breaks.

Pink molds will grow within those sealed cartons

in the refrigerator.  Accept new forms of life

and talk to the dead

who drift in through the screened windows, who collect

patiently on the tops of food jars and books.

Recycle the mail, don’t read it, don’t read anything

except what destroys

the insulation between yourself and your experience

or what pulls down or what strikes at or what shatter

this ruse you call necessity.

Monday 5/13/2013…. Progress Report

May 13, 2013 by P. Hill

Happy Monday…. -smile-  Just checking in with a progress report.

Just a few details to finish with the reno so we’re working a bit each day to get things set right.  Over the weekend SH Ron moved my chandelier into the new CC and put the nice white ceiling fan up in the new guest room.  Guest room is looking cozy — just a few more touches and we’re done in there (all we’ll need is company!).  And we hung a few things….

As for art, I’m finally making good progress on the commissioned blanket!  Slow work while I was painting so am relieved to get back to it and hope to finish up quickly.  Of course, you all know how well that plan usually works for me….  LOL

Thanks for checking in, my friends.

Hey!  Here to let you know that I’m getting settled in the “new” CC — loving all the space!  Although, I have crammed it pretty full of stuff.  LOL  Finally have room for my easel — yay! — and got it all set up, which lead to a little doodling.  Not much time for art yet but took a few minutes for some practice.  Felt so good!

All set to go.... -big smile-

Scribbling with charcoal on 65 lb Canson paper.... Doesn't look like much but it was fun!

Happy hump day everybody!  Find a few minutes for some fun today. -smile-

We made it successfully through our first house guest weekend with the new reno!  Yay!  All comments were favorable — from “cozy” clear through to “classy.”  -smile-  While we were at it we celebrated a first birthday.  This picture speaks for everyone who was here — friends and family alike….

She says "HooRah!" LOL

Happy Monday dear friends….

still working hard….

We’re settling in!  Have a few more changes to make and lots of straightening, but we’re getting more comfy in our “new” space. -smile-
